  • Responsible for leading a global team of engineers, responsible for design, procurement, and manufacturing of support for supply chain tooling.
  • Provide support for Zebra’s injection molding, die casting, and other engineering activities, as well as provide direction to internal teams and external partners.
  • Responsible to manage proactively tooling capacity, maintenance, and tooling replacement to ensure no production downtime.
  • Collaborate with procurement team to analyze suppliers and ensure they have the capability to provide quality tool designs and build in high pace NPI development.
  • Technical leader in this subject matter supporting all teams within Zebra
  • Drive transformation in tooling space.
  • Technical leader responsible for implementing new technologies.


  • Responsible for developing new component/part suppliers and new sourcing partnerships that can be incorporated into new products, as well as existing products to improve cost, efficiency, and quality.
  • Drive suppliers to properly meet the expectations of programs, including lead-times, schedules, manufacturing capacities, test, quality, ongoing reliability needs and fixed, and variable costs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams through the NPI stage gate process (Concept-MP), to ensure robust DFM/DFA, providing leadership, and expertise in product manufacturability.
  • Provide clear DFM/DFA design change recommendations.
  • Manage supplier technical audits. Maintain audit scorecards to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with suppliers to establish world-class tooling process.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to optimize productivity and reduce costs.
  • Track all tooling assets, life cycle and capacity.
  • Evaluate current and potential supplier for tooling and processing capabilities to support Zebra’s product.
  • Work with design team (mechanical and ID) to guide designs for tool risk reduction.
  • Understands scientific molding processes, be able to set processes at first part trials and enforces this practice with suppliers, can coach and develop this standpoint with the JDM’s.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers during tooling development, and report status back to design engineer and NPD core team on progress, issues, and changes.
  • Work with Supplier Development Engineering to validate suppliers process capabilities to satisfy the Critical to Quality (CTQ) characteristics for each component.
  • Lead technical resource for communications between Design Engineers and the Suppliers during recurring tooling development meetings that are facilitated by NPI PM.
  • Responsible for working with suppliers to resolve technical tooling issues during tooling development and initial part manufacturing.
  • Support part qualification process assuring all component tooling needs and critical to quality parameters are met.
  • Develop design and molding strategies with suppliers.
  • Provide concurrent design support to design engineers on part design, material selection, manufacturing processes, to ensure functionality, cost, and DFM objectives are met.



• BS or BA in Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering.

• Minimum of 7 years experience as a technical manager in manufacturing or design engineering capacity.

• Project management experience , ERP and Microsoft Office required. Strong communication(both oral and written) and coaching skills necessary. Experience in TQM, ISO, Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing Techniques desirable.

• Ability to travel 10-25% of the time.
