Zebra Technologies’ Chief Technology Office incubates solutions and develops Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to improve operations of Zebra’s customers in the retail, transportation & logistics, and warehouse markets. The CTO’s Solution Incubation (CTO-SI) Team focuses on advanced development and application of emerging edge sensing, artificial intelligence, and workflow optimization technologies in innovative end-to-end system prototypes to solve real-world problems and advance these systems and AI technologies into Zebra businesses. The CTO-SI AI Team expertise focuses on machine learning, computer vision, image analysis, and natural language processing technologies.


What you will do:

The Senior Manager of Computer Vision (CV) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads a team of experts in the design, development and evaluation of ambitious short term and long-term research and development activities in the areas of CV and AI. The senior manager is responsible for the integrity of all deliverables from the team and determines and develops optimal approaches for delivering CV and AI enabled product solutions. Work consists of both exploratory algorithm research as well as software development activities. Team results are thoroughly evaluated by the senior manager upon completion to ensure objectives have been fully met.


  • Lead the activities of a team of several AI/CV algorithm researchers and AI/CV software engineers working with the global CTO Solution Incubation (CTO-SI) group. These activities include exploratory algorithm research as well as software development and implementation of algorithms.
  • In collaboration with the CTO-SI management team, contribute to the development and management of the short and long-term vision and portfolio of research and development initiatives for the CV/AI team.
  • Responsible for the establishment and development of processes in both algorithm and software teams to optimize delivery to Zebra business units and improve BU satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the integrity of all deliverables from the CV/AI group.
  • Lead experienced engineers and researchers as well as develop junior members from academia/industry to a successful career track.
  • Responsible for growing the team by hiring the best talent available on the market.
  • Work with other hardware and software teams to manage the integration of successful algorithms in complex, real-time production systems at large scale.
  • Champion new thinking and creativity in team members. Coach others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions.
  • Maintain keen awareness of technology roadmap and competitor products and development direction to help direct designs to surpass the competition.


  • Masters/PHD in Computer Engineering/Computer Science (preferably with specialization in computer vision and machine learning); alternatively, a comparable industry career, with significant experience in delivering products using state-of-the-art computer vision and/or machine learning systems
  • 12+ years of engineering experience. 5+ years of managing a computer vision and/or machine learning team
  • Professional experience in software development (software design and development life cycle)
  • Internally recognized leader who exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Ability to distill informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives
  • Ability to manage and quantify improvement in customer experience or value for the business resulting from research outcomes
  • Project management experience for working on cross-functional projects
  • Proven achievements of developing and managing a research vision and portfolio of research initiatives, with algorithms that have been successfully integrated into production systems
  • Strong track record of hiring and leading experienced engineers and researchers
  • as well as a successful record of developing junior members to a successful career track
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts
