The Role:

Senior Manager of Trade Compliance (the “SMTC”) is a key player in the Zebra Global Trade Compliance Program, leading all trade issues in the APAC region. Located in Singapore, this senior manager coordinates trade compliance activities among the various Zebra business units and functions, including those operating in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and India, and this position reports to the VP, Assistant General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer located in Lincolnshire, Illinois.


About You:

You are responsible for providing day-to-day counselling to Zebra managers, supervisors and employees on a full range of trade-related issues, developing practical solutions to trade issues and ensuring compliance with trade laws and regulations relevant to our business and proactively owns and assess trade related issues/risks in the region with effective management and robust controls for business.

You will also act with the highest level of integrity and ethical standards in all aspects of job performance.

As the leader of the APAC in-house trade team, you lead the development and implementation of the strategic trade model for APAC countries where Zebra is the IOR/EOR; establishes and defines Customs clearance capabilities for Zebra’s APAC business units; maintains an informed and encouraging relationship with regional and local trade authorities; and is responsible for managing and resolving all trade law issues within the APAC.


  • Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility and trust with internal partners, GTCO professionals, legal team members and other colleagues;
  • Manages and provides advice and counsel regarding APAC trade-related issues through resolution;
  • Seeks business solutions to trade-related issues, and positively influences and contributes to the decision-making process with relevant parties;
  • Stays informed and engaged with Customs and other agencies’ laws and practices in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and other Customs ports of China, as well as, in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, and the rest of APAC;
  • Assists with the CCC waivers’ applications and processes;
  • Conducts regular reviews of import and export processes, brokers activities and compliance;
  • Develops, implements, and maintains Zebra’s trade processes for APAC region;
  • Handling import & export processes for domestic/ international shipments;
  • Manage brokers, express/courier companies;
  • Identifies regional trade trends and updates in trade environment and communicate it to the global trade management (GTM);
  • Manages GTM process in Oracle;
  • Contributes to classification of Zebra’s articles, country of origin analysis and valuation; and ensure timely review of the HTS classifications and timely communicate and predict any issues arising from the legislative changes in China and throughout the region;
  • Implements appropriate Customs valuation strategies for product destinations;
  • Establishes network of in-country trade specialists and industry resources;
  • Maintains export licenses, and run export controls, i.e., encryption laws, for Zebra’s APAC operations;
  • Handle Denied Parties’ screening;
  • Provides trade training, as vital, to various partners within Zebra;
  • Provides mentorship and supports development initiatives for each of the team members in the GTCO team;
  • Must be proactive in providing counsel to internal clients with the ability to work collaboratively; and
  • Perform other tasks as assigned from time-to-time by the Assistant General Counsel.


  • Graduate degree or its equivalent in international trade law, international business, finance or compliance with experience in regulatory laws, especially in customs regulations and laws, with a minimum of eight (8) years of international trade compliance experience required;
  • Proficiency in business English, and proficiency in Mandarin, is desired;
  • A leader with vision, a collaborative problem-solver and a business-minded trade compliance professional, with extensive experience in people management and regional trade policy;
  • Consistent track record of working cross-functionally, cross-culturally and with virtual teams to build positive business relationships to advance Zebra’s business goals;
  • Experienced in handling high level projects and priorities; and
  • Ability to travel internationally, when required
